
During a site visit to the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery Yesterday (28th), Energy Minister Engineer Kumara Jayakody had a discussion with the senior management of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation with regard to the modernization plans for the Sapugaskanda Oil refinery and key areas that require special attention.
In the meantime, the Minister checked out the future development plans of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery, and had a friendly conversation with other employees of the oil refinery, paying his attention to their issues and suggestions for them.
The Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery, which was built in 1969 spanning over an area of 165 acres, supplies 40% of the country’s petroleum-related product demands, as well as Furnace Oil and Naphtha to run the power plants such as Kelanitissa and Sapugaskanda.
The Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Mr. D.J. Rajakaruna, Managing Director, Dr. Mayura Neththikumarage and the senior management of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery also participated in this event.
