The Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Her Excellency Miyon LEE, met with the Minister of Energy at the Ministry’s office this morning. While extending her congratulations and support to the Ministry of Energy under the new government as a close ally, she also congratulated the government led by the President, who was elected with a strong public mandate. Highlighting the development and achievements of Korea in the energy sector, particularly in renewable energy, Ambassador Miyon LEE also expressed that the Korean government and private sector are looking forward to working closely with the newly-elected government. Furthermore, she pledged Korea’s full support in helping the new government achieve its targets, particularly in the energy sector.
Minister Engineer Kumara Jayakody, during the discussion, stated that the development achieved by South Korea amidst hardships serves as both an example and a source of strength for Sri Lankans, who are also striving on a path to success despite challenging situations. He expressed that Sri Lanka anticipates direct investments from and joint projects with the Korean government and its private sector, while emphasizing that the new government’s corruption-free and transparent economic policies will maximize benefits for all stakeholders. Additionally, he mentioned that his experience working for a renowned South Korean company and visiting Korea allowed him to appreciate the skills, discipline, and dedication of the Korean people. He also expressed gratitude for the support South Korea has extended to Sri Lanka’s energy sector and other fields.
