American Aid for the Revival in the Power Sector….
Mrs. Alaina B. Teplitz U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka emphasizes that America is ready to assist in every way for the National Grid to be implemented by Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma, Minister of Power on behalf of the “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour” introduced by HE the President with the view of generating 70% of the national power generation from green and renewable resources instead of the diesel power plants in Sri Lanka.
Mrs. Alaina expressed these views at a n official meeting held recently with Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma, Minister of Power. This meeting was held at the Ministry of Power and Mrs. Susan F Walk, Head of the Economics, US and Mrs. Wasantha Perera, Secretary, Ministry of Power also participated in this meeting.
In this meeting held with the objective of enhancing diplomatic affairs and the friendship between the two countries there was a long discussion on the future plans and development strategies of the power sector between the Minister of Power and the US representatives.
In this meeting, the Minister explained that measures will be taken to increase the contribution of green and renewable energy up to 70% within the national grid and to reduce contribution of diesel up to 5% and plans are being designed to develop renewable resources and to explore new sources.
Mr. Susan F Walk, Head of the Economics, US said that it is intended to pay the attention of the investors her country to provide necessary technical assistance to improve renewable energy on behalf of the upliftment of the power sector in Sri Lanka and to establish new renewable energy projects. She said that it is intended to implement concessionary loan schemes to establish renewable power projects in the country.
