The Service and commitment of the CEB engineers and other staff to ensure uninterrupted power supply for people of the Country has to be applauded by the general public –Minister, Mahinda Amaraweera
People of the country has to be in their houses due to the situation of corona Virus. Due to uninterrupted continues power supply the all the members of services of health, security so and so forth able to provide their services.
The Minister stated that however none of the party has not applauded the service of Ceylon Electricity Board staff in this decisive moment. If 2hrs power interruption would lead to unsuccessfulness of the current effort.
Minister appreciates the service of the CEB staff in the meeting held today in Sapugaskanda power station to discuss the issues faced by the staff at there.
Further the day demand has been reduced approximately by 30 %. According to the CEB report Norachcholai Coal Power plant contributes approximately 60 % of the demand and balance 40% is getting from hydro, other thermal, wind and solar plants. The demand has been reduced due to the reason of close down of industries, large scale hotels and shops etc. Due to this reason the revenue of CEB also goes down.
Though the Crude oil prices of World Market goes down, due to the depreciation of the Sri Lankan Rupee the amount of the money to import Crude Oil government will bear the cost and will not increase the fuel prices.
Further Minister stated that necessary steps would take to provide foods and safety goods for the staff in power plants and necessary grocery items will provide by Lanka Sathosa to prepare their foods. There are 300 staff in Norachcholai power plant and they are continuously working for the period of 1 month and 5 days and prepare their foods by themselves.
Minister stated that the service of CEB staff provides for people and health service has to be praised by the nation. Minister stated that he visited to the power plant today to praise the service on behalf of the government and the nation.
