Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera , Minister of Passenger Transport Management, Power & Energy advised the officers to submit him a report on the LNG Transaction which is said as a transaction that has occurred more than Rs. 90 Bn to the government.
A discussion of the LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Project which had been proposed to be implemented under the former government was held this morning (02) at the auditorium of the Ministry of Petroleum., According to the facts revealed at this meeting chaired by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Passenger Transport Management, Power & Energy, the contract had been awarded to a Chinese company instead of a company with 63% of public ownership occurring a loss of more than Rs. 90 Bn to the government of Sri Lanka. Even though, a local company had submitted the highest specifications, approval had been granted to a Chinese Company which submitted low specifications at the disposal of the officers of the Ministry of Power and Energy.
Representatives of the local company and the officers of Power and Energy participated the meeting held today.
At the meeting, the Minister asked for a comprehensive report on this transaction with immediate effect and a special discussion on this has been scheduled on 05th Thursday.
Several officers including Mrs. Wasantha Perera, Secretary, Ministry of Power Energy participated in this meeting.
