Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stops two hour daily power outage
CEB had decided a two hour power outage daily.
Due to exceeding the credit limit of the Ceylon Electricity Board for the supply of fuel, Ceylon Electricity Board decided today (03rd) to discontinue supply of fuel to Kerawalapitiya power plant. Accordingly, power generation at Kerawalapitiya power plant was stopped. So, CEB decided to cut power two hours daily as a remedy.
However, Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Passenger Transport Management, Power & Energy immediately interfered this matter and advised the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to continue supply of fuel to the CEB subject to the covering approval of the cabinet.
Accordingly, since Ceylon Petroleum Corporation decided to continue fuel supply, CEB decided to withhold the decision of power outage for two hours which was to be implemented on an emergency situation.
Accordingly, CEB has taken steps for continuous power supply to the general public.
