Ravi Karunanayake

Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development

Mr. Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development emphasizes that “  UNP and SLFP will get together and launch a political campaign to win the Presidential Election this time. We will put forward the right person at the right time. Whoever the candidate is not a person who is ever wailing, but a person who can develop the country and win. Some are making wrong statements. They are just weird statements. We will take strong actions against who try to harm the unity and brotherhood within the UNP. We are not afraid of challenges, as we could defeat Mahinda Rajapakse , any other person is not a challenge. We made a change. Even though it was not successful as we thought, successful to a certain extent. The buried democracy has raised its head again. This has made the background that suits human living. This is a journey that we are correcting our faults and going ahead.

The Minister expressed these ideas at the media conference on shifting the Ministry of Power, Energy and Business Development to a new building and some other issues held this evening (26th).

The Minister Karunananayake added that……………….

“Shifting the Ministry of Power, Energy and Business Development to a new building has become a serious problem for some persons, but the Ministry is presently functioning at a building that is not suitable for a Ministry. When other institutes spend a large amount  of money no one is against it. But, when a   number of employees are facing problems due to inadequate space of the working place and even the approval of the Ministry of Finance and the Cabinet has been given why some have made shifting of the Ministry a problem. The other thing is Sustainable Energy Authority also will be shifted to the same place where this Ministry will be shifted. Presently Sustainable Energy Authority is functioning at BMICH on rent. Now we are going to move a place that the rental is less than even half of the present rental.

When small huts are built here and there and newspaper advertisements are published how much money is spent on it. Can’t any one see how 10-15 Millions of rupees are used for useless things. Aren’t you against them. We are making capital expenditures, not recurrent expenses.

Some groups of SLFP have had discussions to join UNP. We will point out the number in future. They join us for an optimistic journey. We are engaged in moral politics.

Some parties are creating problems in the country focusing some persons. The problem of waste is also the same. It is necessary to find out who are behind these cases. Permission for this has been given in 2013, but blaming the government is in vain. Remedies shall be given before the problem would be aggravated.

Some are trying to destroy and divide UNP. We never allow to do it. There are a few subversive persons. This has got a history. The same thing happened in 2005, 2010. The first break down of UNP steadily founded by Hon. D.S.Senanayake and others was in 1989. Its influence has continued up to now”.
