“As a government measures will take steps to provide electricity to every religious place free of charge…..”
“We have been appointed as people’s representatives to help the public, not for the wellbeing of ourselves…..”
“Today majority is trying for to practice a supposititious Buddhist Lives depending on television…”
Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development
Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development stated that “We, people’s representatives have been appointed to help the public, not for the wellbeing of ourselves. Even though I am a non-Buddhist I am bound to be committed for Buddhism and to spread it island wide. We should make this small island a model. Today our people are practicing Buddhism in a supposititious way depending on television. If this condition should be changed and practice the religion practically, co-existence could be ensured within the country and get rid of people’s unrest. Even though this is a Buddhist country why Catholics, Hindus and Muslims also live together?”
Minister Karunanayake expressed these views participating a programme of giving free of charge electricity relief held at Bodhirajaramaya, Kataragama recently.
Minister Karunanayake added that “We become helpless due to the decisions of public officers. As Ministers, if we take a decision to do something, decisions of the pubic officers taken on it delay the particular task. They have other intention and it is difficult to change this situation. However, we are correcting them and going forward. If we have a target, we make true on behalf the public facing any obstacle come on our way. CEB spends Rs. 898Mn for the electrical requirements of this country.
In this way we are trying to reduce or take out the expenditure on electricity of religious places of Sri Lanka by renewable energy. We will be able to reach it in 2-3 months. We expect to provide electricity free of charge to all the religious places as a government by that time”.
Addressing at this event, Chief Incumbent of the Southern Province, Chief Incumbent of Abhinawaramaya, Chief Incumbent of the Ruhunu Magampattuwa, Kataragama Shasanarakshaka Ven. Kapugama Saranatissa Thero, said that Minister Ravi Karunanayake was a truthful ruler. Even though requests were made to many to release the electricity bill of the temple, only Mr. Karunanayake could accomplish it. He is often working with a great interest towards Buddhism and the release of electricity bill must be written in an epigraph to make aware the future generation.
