Promotion and coordination of cooperative researches on nuclear science and technology, development and training projects in collaboration with other countries and other International Atomic Energy Agencies is a significant role. During the last few years  RCA programmes have remarkably contributed the development capabilities of Sri Lanka in the fields of nuclear science and technology to solve socio economic problems within the areas of agriculture, human health, environment and industries. Utilization of nuclear technology for the harmony and development of this country based on this agreement”

41st  Cooperation  Conference of the Asian and South Eastern Regions for Nuclear Technology Affiliated to the International Atomic Energy Agency will be held from 26th to 29th March 2019 at Galadhari Hotel, Colombo. Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development stated these views, participating the opening ceremony of the said event at Galadari hotel as the Chief  Guest.

This conference is conducted jointly by the International Atomic Energy Agency and Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Agency and this time Sri Lanka is the host country. This conference is mainly focused on  strategic planning and policy management related to Regional Cooperative Agreement implemented with the objective of popularizing nuclear technology in the regional countries including Sri Lanka.

This conference will be held with the participation of Deputy Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency and the representatives of Asian and South Eastern Regions. The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of  Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development  and with the participation of the State Minister Hon. Chamika Premadasa and around 50 of foreign delegation and around 200 representatives of scientific and  other public institutes took part in it.

At this opening ceremony, answering to the media Mr. Karunanayake said that……………………..

“Ceylon Electricity Board has already issued notifications of power cuts. I’ll answer in this regard at the parliament on 29th. Steady resolutions for this issue are given in the middle of April. No additional power generation was  from 2014. When the demand for power increases 7% – 8%  and supply is unavailable to meet it problems emerge automatically. We are experiencing the curse of not taking corrective measures in this regard.  Blaming the past is in vain. Steady solutions should be given for this issue and should take measures not to occur it again in the power sector.

Even though people express number of views, we will give a better solution in near future. We regret for the inconvenience faced by the general public. We will implement a plan in a short period to eliminate this issue forever.”
