Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development
Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Power & Energy and Business Development emphasizes that “Violence can be easily created in a country under this kind of calamity. At present it is visible in Sri Lanka. A situation in the facet of instigating violence has come into being. As the leaders our only objective must be to lessen present disputes and sorrows and make harmony among people. We should be unite to ensure Sri Lankan identity. The necessity is to develop the country under the theme of one Country, One Nation and One Law. The statements of growing disharmony and making fun should be stopped and should accept Sri Lanka, a Sinhala – Buddhist Country.
He made this statement to the media today (16) at a private hospital in Colombo when he came to visit Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thero who is under in- patient treatment due to bad health.
Responding to the questions of media he stated as follows. …….
At a situation where peace is needful, some people provoke general public and create problems. Stirring up public by disguised politicians is shameful. It seems that there is no proper political leadership in the country today. This is common to every political party. How do we build up a peaceful country under these circumstances? This is the high time to be unite and peaceful for the sake of Sri Lanka.
If Muslims and Tamils become happy with the statements that Sinhala Buddhists become unhappy, it is not right. Similarly, the statements that affect Muslims and Tamils while soothing Sinhalese are faulty. I state as the Assistant Leader of United National Party that, this kind of personal statements are their own statements and not the stability of the party. At this moment, our responsibility is not to make statements as per our personal political agenda or to please the international, but we should make a plan to establish Sri Lankan identity.
We should keep aside politics and work together to protect this country. Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, Burgher and Malay, we all should stand for the identity of Sri Lanka. This is uniqueness, humanity and unity of Sri Lanka. This is what we should create.
He stated that, some idle people get into groups and don’t give chance to those who work and interrupt them . Even though it is sad, I must reveal it. We should go forward as a Country and let’s unite by lighting a candle without cursing the darkness. This is the high time to save our country. At present, all the political parties have failed and let’s all unite together to improve the country.
