Minister, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya
Today (18), morning hour, Sathara Wahalkada Milk Pouring ritual ceremony was held under the patronage of Hon. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy by way of worshiping and respecting Sri Maha Bodhi in order to invoke for seeking rain water in time for people and generate hydropower electricity.
Water capacity of waterfalls for generation of power is at a level of 60%. Therefore, a specific contribution is received in continuous power generation through hydropower as a renewable energy.
The Minister, while participating at the above special religious rite said that necessary plans have already been prepared to make Sri Lanka self-sufficient in its renewable energy and thereby very rapid advantages can be reached. He further stated that it is his aspiration to bring power generation capacity of non-renewable energy sources up to 20% by 2020.
