800 MW SL’s largest ever solar power project gets off in Poonarin ….

Hon. Ranjith Siyabalapitiya, Minister of Power & Renewable Energy stated that solar power generation project with a capacity of 800 MW to be commenced soon in Poonerin.

Hon. Minister outlined so in this morning (06) whilst participating a field visit on the proposed project site.
In line with this project, wind power project with 240 MW also to be set up on the proposed site. Hon. Minister expressed that through implementing of these projects the country would be able to save around 3 Billion rupees incurred annually for alternative power sources from foreign countries and added that international tenders are to be called for this project in coming month August.

Environmental impact is minimum as carrying out these project consuming renewable energy which does not release any Carbon Dioxide to the very environs. These solar and wind power projects would elevate the country to a new heights of power generation in its way to attain self sufficiency in power, Minister elaborated.
