“Javana Shakthi Yatra” launched under the patronage of the President

An exhibition race has been organized as the first stage of the ‘Hetak Venuwen Ratak’ (A Country for Tomorrow) programme to commomorate the National Energy Conservation Month, at the Independence Square. The race was named as ‘Javana Shakti Yatra’ launched under the patronage of the president Maithripala Sirisena and with the participation of the minister of power and energy Mr.Patali Champika Ranawaka.

Before the ‘Javana Shakti Yatra’ race commenced, the President took the ‘Energy’ oath, and 2,000 gas balloons were released to air with the oath printed on them.
More than 3,000 participants including the commanders of the Army and Navy, Military officers and senior Government officials took part in the event.After the warm up exercises the walk started and they arrived back at Independence Square after covering nearly four kilometers.
The race aimed to focus attention of people on saving fuel and electricity by 10% and to encourage the use of human labour whenever it is not necessary to use fuel and electricity.
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka presented the title “Brand Ambassador” of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to the newly elected Chairman of the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka, Mr.Sugath Thilakaratne to carry this message to the public.
