Water offering ceremony at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi expecting timely rain.

The annual water offering ceremony was held recently at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi by the Ceylon Electricity Board. This annual pooja event is conducting with the expectations of receiving timely rains ending the dry weather conditions.

This water offering ceremony was held under the patronage of the minister Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka within the precincts of revered Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.

Twelve pots containing water from the hydropower reservoirs were offered to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi by the Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka after blessing by circumambulate them at the Ruwanweli Maha Seya stupa. The great shower occured while to the pooja was held is a speciality.

Before the pooja started, the close vicinity of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi was spreaded with thousands of lotus flowers. Oil lamps were lit on either side of the path way from the premises of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi to Ruwanweli Maha Seya. In the early morning the milk boiling ceremony was held at four gateways to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and an alms giving to the Maha Sangha was done in the morning.

The water offering ceremony was conducted with the participation of the Chief Incumbent of the Atamasthana, the venerable Pallegama Siri Nivasa Nayaka Thero and the Chief Prelate of Ruwanweli Seya, the venerable Pallegama Hemarathana thero. The objective of this ceremony was to pray for timely rains in the catchment areas of the hydropower reservoirs.

Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board Anura Wijepala Vice President Nihal Wickramasooriya, General Manager M.C. Wickramasekera, working director M.K.G. Gunathilaka, Deputy General Manager for North Central Province Piyasiri Gunasinghe and senior officials of  the ministry of power and energy and the Ceylon Electricity Board were participated this event.
