With the participation of the minister of power and energy Patali Champika Ranawaka and other ministers a walk was organised recently, in order to focus attention on the importance of power conservation, as a solution to the energy crisis brought on by the climate changes taking place.
Due to the failure of scheduled monsoons, hydro power capacity had dropped drastically, forcing the increased dependence on thermal power, hence it is a national duty of all Sri Lankans to conserve energy. With the aim of preparing for a global power crisis, many conservation programs have been initiated. As a special component of these energy conservation measures, this walk had also been organised.
The walk organised under the theme lets unite, queue up and prepare to conserve energy, with the participation of the clergy, educators, medical personnel, farmers and labourers, commenced from Galle Face, through Lake house roundabout, passing the CEB headquarters to Vihara Maha Devi Park.
